The trip will be an adventure, and it is through the adventurous spirit that the trip will exemplify a theme of how ROW serves around the world. ROW goes up remote rivers around the world, sometimes to places that no one else will go, and ROW staff and volunteers go to these places by pushing their bodies, following their hearts, and enjoying the sense of fulfillment that can come with this type of mission work. This trip will push the participants’ bodies to a physical point where they may be exhausted, but it will be their love for the people of Belize and the dedication to the work that we are doing that will keep us going.
Bicycles will be the preferred mode of transportation during the trip because Nick and Scott want to see the country in a way that keeps them more connected to the land and people. Too often in Belize visitors travel in cars, buses, and planes to get to a desired destination. However, in the rush to get places visitors often glance over the human treasures that Belize has to offer.
Traveling on bicycles is appropriate in Belize because so many locals use bicycles to travel places. Whether it is in a remote village where someone is riding a bike down a jungle trail or in a large city where a bike is used to transport groceries, bicycles are the cheapest and most prevalent form of transportation in Belize.
Despite the excitement and adventure that comes with this trip, the reason for the trip is to raise money for Rivers of the World’s work in Belize. This means raising the money for the individual projects, as well as the costs it takes to have ROW working in Belize throughout the year. People, churches, and groups will be encouraged to donate to the trip, and the following plan is set forward to show how the trip can be realized.
